Lollapalooza

Lollapalooza finally came back to Chicago in 2022. And the lineup was jam packed. I only went for 3 of the 4 days. Even though I love music and enjoyed everyday I went, I knew I would not have the energy to do it all. But i was in the city for a few days before and after to just hitting museums and going on artist dates.

Its been years since I’ve been to a huge festival and this event was so well organized. I loved that they had bracelets as our tickets, but it also could be connected to your Venmo or PayPal. So you did not have to have any cards with you other then a ID. There were plenty of security and people to ask questions of. Being there solo I never felt unsafe at any point. And there was plenty of space to spread out.

Now, the event was HUGE. There were 9 stages, food, drinks, gardens, VIP, and so many other things to do. I didn’t realize until I looked at the map just how big. But I was glad. I do not like music from other areas competing. And I know some people with ADHD would be so distracted by that.

I started off slow on the Friday. Got merch, checked out the food, and just wanders. Sat in the shade for the first half listening to sets. Jordy and Cardae were new to me but really enjoyed their music and how the interacted with the crowds. Then I made my way up to the crowd cause I wanted to get as close as I could to see Glass Animals and Dua Lipa. Best part about going solo is that I can move and shift with the crowd and keep moving forward.

I was actually 2 back from barracked, so that was awesome. Made some friends and had fun chatting and jamming together. Both sets were great and I lost my voice from all the singing.

Saturday was shorter because I mostly wanted to see TXT. Now, I don’t want to hear shit about people being mad about MOA not moving around for other artists’ sets. I was there too for the 2 sets before. We were all having fun and jumping around for Sidepiece. But Duke, who was after, was boring. There were people in the crowd around me who wanted to see him and they did not like his set. So calm down. But TXT did great and I wish they could have gone longer.

Sunday was my long day. Not gonna lie, I was only a little tempted to get there early to get close for J-Hope’s set. But I don’t have it in me to be at that spot all damn day. Not gonna lie, I don’t really remember the first half of the day. But I did go to Charli XCX (very good), The Kid Laroi (not my vibe, but good), The J-Hope. I was tempted about going to Green Day, but I’ve seen them before. And J-Hope’s set was phenomenal.

Lollapalooza was definitely fun and well worth it. Would I go back? Probably not. Unless they had a lot more artists that I love and most likely for only a day or two. Though I really do love traveling alone I ran out of things to do the last day I was in Chicago and really didn’t want to scroll social all day because of that.
